Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Supporting creative people in high-pressure environments
When life is stressful and we feel overwhelmed, therapy can be a safe and supportive space to make sense of what is happening and how to make changes.
My approach is to work collaboratively with you, to help you understand yourself more clearly and fully, and how to move forward.
I will listen without judgement, and together we’ll illuminate patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour that might be affecting you in the present, identify external stressors which feel out of your control, and explore how you relate to yourself and others.
I am not a ‘silent’ therapist, and will bring warm, gentle inquisitive exploration to our sessions together.
I am particularly interested in questions around meaning-making, identity, creativity, authenticity and relationships.
My approach to therapy is ‘integrative’
I draw from:
- the psychodynamic (how early life might have unconsciously influenced you)
- the existential (what brings meaning to you in the here and now)
- the relational (how you experience relationships, with yourself and others)
- the trauma-informed (exploring the impact of traumatic experiences, whether abuse, neglect, multiple or single incidents)
- I may also use practical, solution-focused techniques if that feels helpful.
Though I do not work from the ‘medical model’ of understanding mental distress, I have worked within this system and can advise on questions you may have around diagnosis, medication or your care.
I have extensive experience with:
· Individuals in the creative arts such as performers, creatives, crew, directors, writers and those working behind the scenes.
· Individuals who identify as being neurodiverse, or are questioning
· Individuals who are trans, non-binary, Queer, LGBTQIA+ and/or questioning.
· Individuals wishing to explore issues around racism and prejudice, whiteness and power dynamics.
· Individuals who identify as disabled
· Students and academics
· Relationship and/or workplace challenges
· Kink and/or poly/non monogamous relationships
· Issues around psychiatric diagnosis and medication (including withdrawal)
· Experiences sometimes diagnosed or labelled as ‘bipolar’, ‘psychosis’, ‘personality disorders’, ‘depression’, ‘anxiety’, ‘post traumatic stress’, etc.
